Country Information

Morocco, officially Kingdom of Morocco, is a country in northern Africa, bordering Algeria and Mauritania. It belongs to the Maghreb countries, which includes Tunisia, Mauritania, Algeria and Libya to be included. The country also belongs to the Arab League. The country was declared independent from France on March 2, 1956. The capital of Morocco is Rabat and the largest city is Casablanca. Morocco is a monarchy. The King of Morocco is Mohammed VI. The dominant religion is Islam, but the country also has a small percentage of Christians and Jews. The official language is Arabic. French is the second language. In addition Berber and Spanish are spoken.

CARDEV (Carrefour et Développément)

CARDEV (Carrefour et Développement) works on organizational development and migration issues. Besides providing information on the dangers of illegal migration CARDEV is also doing research on migration, supporting victims of illegal migration and the promotion of human rights. It organizes periodic meetings with migrants returning from the region with the aim of increasing their self-awareness and sharing experiences. They also have two theme studies on violence against migrant women and unaccompanied minors. They provide information through documentaries, workshops and through testimonials from survivors of illegal migration. They also work to raise awareness on legal migration.

MBT works with CARDEV since late 2010. CARDEV also joined the ERSO (European Reintegration Support Organisations) network.
