Country information

The republic of Azerbaijan gained independence in 1991. Azerbaijan has a surface area of 86.600 square kilometers (twice that of the Netherlands) and borders on Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Russia and Turkey. The city of Baku is the capital. Azerbaijan is one of the top twenty oil producing countries in the world. The income from oil exports means that Azerbaijan’s economy is one of the fastest growing in the world. In addition the country also has considerable reserves of natural gas. 

Partner organization 

Women Crisis Centre

On arrival in Azerbaijan MBT provides reintegration support through its partner organization. Upon arrival the client receives a financial contribution. This sum is not given in cash but is spent under supervision of the partner organization on providing the means necessary for building a sustainable future in Azerbaijan. 

In Armenia MBT works together with the organization Women Crisis Centre. Women Crisis Centre is based in Baku. In addition to providing up-to-date country information Women Crisis Centre offers returnees the following support tailored to their individual needs: reception at the airport; assistance in finding work or setting up income generating activities; support in accessing education or training; support in legal services and medical assistance.  They are not able to provide help in finding accommodation.
