Angola

Country information

The Angolan economy continues to grow, despite the effects of the credit crisis. Although there are plenty of employment opportunities in Angola, jobs can be harder to find for those with limited education. For those with few skills only heavy and badly paid work is available. Training is essential for ensuring a minimum income. Knowledge of English is of great importance. Learning technical skills or occupational training (electrician, tiling, shoemaker etc) before return is recommended.

The economy in provincial towns such as Huambo and Benguela is also developing further. Benguela functions as the industrial centre. Infrastructure between towns in Angola has radically improved in the past years. Malange for example can be reached within 6 hours. The people of Angola need manpower to help rebuild the country. Returnees are welcome, although on the whole the government does not invest in their reintegration.  The region of Cabinda is relatively calm.

The government has taken some steps to rebuild Angolan society.  Although the government possesses many billions that are not being invested in Angolan society but on their own expenditures, social investment by the government is on the rise. Civil servants salaries have also risen in the past two years.

Partner organization

JMJ Angola

On arrival in Angola MBT can offer reintegration support through its partner organization.  Upon arrival the client can claim a financial contribution.  This sum is not received in cash but is spent under supervision of the partner organization to provide the resources necessary for a sustainable future in Angola. In Angola MBT works together with JMJ Angola. This organization is based in Luanda and is specialized in participation and reintegration.

JMJ has a special ‘job support’ program that actively informs young people about suitable employment in Luanda or elsewhere. An interactive website has been launched with job vacancies. In addition contacts with Dutch companies that may be in a position to offer opportunities for returning Angolans are encouraged.

In early 2010 a youth network “Anghollanders” was initiated. Young people are encouraged to exchange information and experiences and to support one another in the reintegration process. An interactive website also offers young people an easily accessible way of getting in touch with one another.
